Committees
Foreign Relations »
As a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Ted is dedicated to advancing America’s interests through a responsible U.S. foreign policy. The committee is tasked with overseeing the foreign policy agencies of the U.S. government, including the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, and the Peace Corps. The Committee reviews and considers all diplomatic nominations and international treaties, as well as legislation relating to U.S. foreign policy.
During an April 2009 visit to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, Ted had the opportunity to visit with US troops, foreign leaders, and others to examine our strategy in the region. Ted is an active member of a number of subcommittees including: African Affairs; European Affairs; International Operations and Organizations, Human Rights, Democracy, and Global Women's Issues; and Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs.
Judiciary »
As a member of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary — one of the longest standing committees in the U.S. Senate — Ted is actively engaged in the oversight of federal law enforcement and all federal courts, as well as anti-terrorism measures, human rights, copyright and patent law, and immigration policy. The Committee also considers the President’s nominees for federal judgeships, including Supreme Court Justices. In this role, Ted has led the effort to fight financial fraud through the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act of 2009 — bipartisan legislation he introduced that bolsters existing tools and increase resources available to federal prosecutors to combat financial fraud. That legislation passed the Senate in April. Ted sits on a number of subcommittees including: Administrative Oversight and the Courts; Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights; Crime and Drugs; Terrorism and Homeland Security; the Constitution.
